Plein 1940. This one is for Jess. As I learned recently the statue by Zadkine wasnot made for Rotterdam specifically. In fact he tried to sell it to Berlin and other cities before it was bought by Amsterdam and brought to Rotterdam by the then director of De Bijenkorf.

Europaweg. Maasvlakte 2, an expansion of the Port of Rotterdam, will shortly cover 1000 hectares of industrial sites, located directly on deep water. The sand for the land reclamation comes from selected locations at sea but also becomes available when the port itself is excavated. This sand is sprayed onto the sites and forms the foundation of the hard and soft seawall in the North Sea.
