Bergse Linker Rottekade. A quiet day in the Netherlands.

Heemraadssingel. We have had ANY and EVERY type of weather yesterday. Awfully humid and sunny, rain and thunder, hail and storm. Today promised to be a quiet, yet wet day.

Jagthuisstraat. My oldest son is done with primary school and celebrated with his whole class doing a (traditional end-of-schoolyear) musical. Yeah for long summer holidays!

Zwarte Plasje. This is what you get at an open air waterpolo tournament. Kids playing in the pool while the parents watch the match from under their umbrella.

Goudsesingel. No this has nothing to do with shoe trees. They're from a store next to the gate :)

Westersingel. It may be hard to read but artist Job Koelewijn made an installation in the water from text of Samuel Beckett; No matter Try Again Fail Again Fail Better. Especially for this location (near the Pauluschurch that is known for helping out those at the borders of our society) he wanted to make a message of hope.

Bredestraat. There were a lot of bikes outside this day care center to carry several kids at one time.

Tip of the Willemsbrug. It's quite stormy at the moment which makes for great skies.

Binnenwegplein. And all of a sudden we are back to pouring rain and dropped temperatures again.

Coolsingel. Some businessmen leaving the bank. I wonder if the situation in Greece is what they are discussing.

View on Hotel NY from the Rijnhaven. The sun sets just before 10 pm over here and when I came out of the restaurant I had to rush to get something of the red in the sky.

Biinenwegplein. Taking a break from shopping.

A bunch of relieved and happy runners who return from their epic journey for the ROPArun. The RO stands for Rotterdam (where they finish) and the PA stands for Paris where they started 4 days ago. All to collect money for cancer patients.

Nieuwe Binnenweg. Love and peace and happiness to y'all!

My place. A herring sandwich with onions, just the way I like them. It's the season of the soused herring again and some may gag thinking of raw herring, but I love 'm :)

Binnenwegplein. There's a new water installation here that is a joy for children, but a bit unconfortable for grown-ups on a windy day.

Marconistraat. View on the Marconi towers and the roundabout referring to the fruit terminal next to it.

Oude Binnenweg. Cafe and restaurant Sijf is ready for your orders!

Technically this is no longer Rotterdam, but Schiedam, but this shop is fantastic! And although they dont look it, my sons thought so too.

Nieuwe Binnenweg. According to their website: The Centrum Beeldende Kunst Rotterdam has been encouraging the art climate in Rotterdam for a quarter of a century. The origins thereof lie in an inspired mission statement: in assignment of the local government the CBK has taken on the task of strengthening the position of visual arts in Rotterdam as well as the visual artist of Rotterdam by creating most favourable conditions for the production, presentation and sale of visual art in all sectors of society.

The bronze of the rabbit statues of Tom Claassen near the Kunsthal is shining through thanks to all the (little) children rubbing it.

Marconistraat. I really liked the graffiti on this block and discovered a whole lot behind it too. Maybe next time for those images.

Westzeedijk, I promised to love you, a collection of temporary art from the Caldic Collection

in the Kunsthal.

Nieuwe Binnenweg. I ran into these Matrushka dolls of the Dutch royal family and am thinking of an occasion to buy them.

Binnenrotte. Today's theme is Under Construction. And I didnot want to show you Central Station (under construction for about 10 years) AGAIN, so I chose this appartment building that is changing/growing organically. The city council is sponsoring green roofs because of their environmental advantages, but I wonder if this is simply a vertical garden or a political statement.
