Veerhaven. Some flowers today to get your attention towards Daylight Saving time starting tonight and also Earth Hour. At 8:30 PM on Saturday 26th March 2011, lights will switch off around the globe for Earth Hour and people will commit to actions that go beyond the hour.
With Earth Hour almost upon us, our thoughts are with the people of Japan during this incredibly challenging and sad time for their country.
日本の皆さん、勇気を持って頑張って下さい

Sign found in a mirroring window of a former shop. No access for drugsdealers, shitting hobo's, rioting squatters, pissing alcoholics and graffitivandals. Not sure if I'm allowed in or not.

THE COOLEST NEIGHBORHOOD
Wall-painting on a post-war building in the neighborhood called 'Cool'. Cool is pretty gentrified the last 10 years and there are great plans for the future to make 'Cool' a more vibrant place.

LEUVEHAVEN
Oldest dugged harbor in Rotterdam (1609).
In the background you can see 'Waterstad area', a mixed-use area between the river 'Maas' and the shopping district.

Hello my name is Jasper van Orden. My online persona or nickname is @Rotterdamart. And here's the reason why:

I love Rotterdam because the city has great potential to become a beautiful 'canvas' for modern life and architecture. Let's say Rotterdam is a piece of art from a great artist in his early days… Free from traditional social or moral constraints!

It is great to see the city become more dense, durable and coherent year after year. And it feels even better to be a part of that process as an inhabitant of this city!

Thanks to 'Rotterdam daily photo', for inviting me to share some photo's this week. Hope you enjoy them!

President Wilson weg.

The Netherlands has a great name in making bicyclepaths
We are even thinking about making highways for bicycles.
They are marked red, and the toplayer, for a part, comes from sewage sludge

People who are living in the Northern Hemisphere are looking out for Spring. Everywhere on the interweb i see pictures and comments about the coming of Spring.
This morning i did wake up with this phrase from an old love song: It is maybe winter outside but in my heart it is Spring. What is the name of the song and who did sing ?

24 january 2006 in the early morning i took this picture from a cradle elevator.
In the middle the Erasmus bridge, nickname the Swan.
I still remember the discussions in newspapers where engineers said the bridge
could not been made, and would collaps.

My name is Aad (or Adrian) Corbeth. Born and raised in the beautiful city Rotterdam. the Netherlands
I do enjoy being a guestphotographer of Rotterdam daily photo.
Sam Abell once wrote:

But there is more to a fine photograph than information. We are also seeking to present an image that arouses the curiosity of the viewer or that, best of all, provokes the viewer to think--to ask a question or simply to gaze in thoughtful wonder. We know that photographs inform people. We also know that photographs move people. The photograph that does both is the one we want to see and make. It is the kind of picture that makes you want to pick up your own camera again and go to work.

Rotterdam daily photo sure does.

Goudsesingel, Rotterdam born singer, actor, and comedian Gerard Cox who received the Wolfert van Borselen medal from the city of Rotterdam in 2000, is a huge Feyenoord fan and writes bi-weekly colums in a newspaper about Rotterdam-as-it-was. Today he celebrates this blog's 5th anniversary with all of us in Rotterdam as it is :)

Wilgenring. Although waterpolo is not as big in the Netherlands, as say in Serbia, Hungary or Spain, Rotterdam born Arno Havenga did the unbelievable in 2008; as a teammanager he led the Dutch women to a golden medal in the Olympic games. He is the most succesful and famous waterpolo player of the Netherlands and played for several years with Olympic Nice in France. Over the last years he won the Dutch championship for men while playing at GZC Donk.

Posthumulaan. If you say Rotterdam and you say athletics, everyone will say Nelli Cooman. I met Nelli a couple of days ago in front of the new Luxor theatre where she posed for RDP's 5th anniversary. Apart from being very nice, she is also VERY fast. Nelli was World Champion 60 meters indoor twice, six times European Champion and countless (well allright, 19 times) Dutch national champion. She became Dutch sportwoman of the year in 1986 and as of 1997 the Nelli Cooman Games (Track and Field athletics) are organised.

De Parade, today's theme day is about your favorite part of town. And no, it is not the bathroom, but it's this fantastic summer festival with great performances, a huge swing, nice food and drinks AND... usually even good weather too. And yes I also loved this public bathroom. Want to see thumbnails for all participants?
