Stadhuisplein. This monument by Mari Andriessen is a war monument for all that sacrified their lives during WWII. The 4 persons reprensent the grief from the past and the hope for the future (the woman looking back, the child and the man looking at each other and the man with the spade looking ahead).

Coolsingel. This ladies and gentlemen is Rotterdam's awesome mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb who could spare a minute to pose for all of you and the 5 he is holding indicates this blog's anniversary of course. Big hand also to his spokesman mr. De Jong who made this possible.

My place. YES!! These 5 people have made Rotterdam daily photo possible and would like to celebrate it's 5th anniversary with you.
Exactly 5 yrs ago I started this blog and although some times have been hard and enduring, most days have been a pleasure discovering this wonderful city and meeting up with its people and the people from the other city daily photo bloggers. From the bottom of my heart I thank all of you for your kind and wise words and nice comments and if you want some cake, better be quick coz obviously my husband is absolutely ready for it :)

Burg. Meineszplein. This thing gives a high pitched noise (like a mosquito) in case of trouble caused by groups of youth for instance. As I happen to know as of yesterday, the city council of Rotterdam is planning to retrieve the last 10 that are hung.

Vierambachtsstraat. Next week Carnaval hits our country, although most celebrated in Catholic regions, mainly the southern provinces Noord Brabant and Limburg. Dutch Carnival is celebrated on the Saturday through Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday. Although traditions vary from town to town, some common characteristics of Dutch Carnival include a parade, a fake prince plus cortège ("Council of 11"), the boerenbruiloft (farmer's wedding) and the haring happen (eating herring) on Ash Wednesday.

Eendrachtsplein. The forecast says today will be the last winter day but boy do I hope so, coz it is cold!!!

Kralingse Bos. The 2 mills and some runners on a chilly day.

Nieuwe Binnenweg. The weather has been too cold the past days to simply rest and linger on a bench.

Beukelsdijk. I have heard birds sing in the morning, have seen the first flower bulbs bloom and yes, these ladies are definitely spring cleaning! One more week peeps and I celebrate Rotterdamdailyphoto's 5th anniversary!!

Noordplein. The Dutch seem to be very fond of their goblins.

Abraham van Stolkweg. The sun is setting next to the Van Nelle building.

Heemraadssingel. In honour of Dutch (and Rotterdam born and bred) female writer Anna Blaman a silver motor bike. Mrs. Blaman used to ride one and back in the forties, a woman on a motor bike was very rare.

Eendrachtsplein. Arjan Erkel and students of the Hogeschool Rotterdam have placed a lot of nets over well known objects in the city raising awareness and money against malaria.

Stadhuisplein. The shopping area down town almost deserted at night.

Leuvehaven. Some days are greyer than others. I wish you all a proper SUNday.

The Patent Parade in the library is an interactive exhibition touring through the Netherlands with all sorts of Dutch inventions and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Governmental Patent Law. The skate that you see here with the loose heel caused a whole lot of new world records.

Kruiskade. Always good to know.

Hoogstraat. That looks good he! We went to the main library downtown and got some books with a lunch to go.

Bergweg. Passed this funny angel painted over two bike parkings yesterday. I am counting down till the 26th of this month when I celebrate my 5th anniversary with Rotterdam daily photo!! I am thinking of several things for that day, but if you have suggestions or a wishlist or anything, let me know. I can always do with some inspiration.

Heemraadssingel. Sometimes things are taken very literally.

Schouwburgplein. The last day of the International Film Festival Rotterdam yesterday. We saw a bunch of movies and I like Blue Valentine and King of Devil's Island best. Which one did you see lately?

Beukelsdijk. I confess I usually ponder through the room and end up at the window too when I am on the phone. This guy just combined it with a smoke. Two birds with one stone.

Maasboulevard. Under the leafless trees a view on the partial skyline of Rotterdam.

Westzeedijk. Contrary to Australia or the midwest of the USA, we are having something that looks (a bit!) like spring. Seems the groundhog may be right.

Hofplein. Today's theme day is about fountains, and as you might have noticed, this one is the one I posted almost exactly 2 months ago. But I swear, it looks exactly the same right now.
