Schepenstraat. It's just as with suitcases rolling from that belt at airports. You are looking for your very own one. And how to find your bike in a crowd? Pimp it!

Hoek Vierambachtsstraat/Heemraadssingel. Makes me think of Pink Floyd.

Bentincklaan. For a lot of people the words Turkish and pizza are not an automatism, but our fast food stalls serve these pizza's rolled up like a wrap. Kapsalon (or hair saloon) is an interesting dish with fries too. What's your favourite fast food?

Willemskade. The World museum that is still under construction houses on this quay that was built in 1847! Some of the most expensive apartments of Rotterdam are situated here now.

This is how my 6 yr old daughter and her teacher 'shake' hands each morning! After this summer's holiday not only offices have written scripts for when the pig fly/mexican flu hits us, (who can not be missed, who has to rotate his job when there are too many sick people in other jobs etc). At my kids school they are no longer allowed to greet the teacher every morning and afternoon and then shake their hand, no they now do the box!
I find it all a tad exaggerated.

Admiraal de Ruyterweg. The sign says Biking in Rotterdam and shows you the specially designed paths that lead you up to where your legs and lungs can take you.

Monday, September 21, 2009

Admiraal de Ruyterweg. First official autumn day. The weather is still nice but we cannot fool nature.

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Heemraadsplein. The Rotterdam Harvest festival was organised for the first time yesterday and its aim was to bring the country into the city. Here you see a sheep being shaved. The Rotterdam city council uses sheep for its agricultural maintenance. The sheep like grass more than herbs and therefor give the herbs more chance to grow. They also take the seeds with them and spread them in a bigger area through their wool and poop. A regular herd consists of 250 sheep and is watched by 2 or 3 border collies (which he called ADHD dogs by the way)

Korte Hoogstraat. Where is the knight in shining armor who will save us from the new banking crisis our country is heading towards?

Friday, September 18, 2009

Witte de With. We are having a fantastic Indian summer and the terrace of Restaurant Bazar is probably going to be filled today too. Anyone got good plans for the weekend?

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Kruiskade. Rotterdam has several theatres and yesterday night we went to this theatre to see Theo Maassen with his show No Mercy. A great, great show and as they taped it yesterday, probably available on dvd soon.

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Museumpark. The entrance to café Coenen with the Netherlands Architecture Institute right behind it. Cutting edge indeed.

Tuesday, September 15, 2009

For some reason cyclamen are back from the 70-ies and they are everywhere. The city council of Rotterdam has filled up 500 flower pots with 60,000 of them and you can't go in to a garden center and not step on them.

Monday, September 14, 2009

These are Eddy Kaijser and Bart Cardinaal who designed the Flying Grass Carpet they are lying on. According to their flyer The Flying Grass Carpet is an instant park that travels from city to city, bringing a unique experience of fun and relaxation that can be shared worldwide.
With this carpet they have been nominated for the prestigious Dutch Design award. Make their day guys and vote for them at this site. Every vote counts :)

Witte de Withstraat. These girls were raising awareness and money for breast cancer by helding a tit race (seriously). They drove round with number on their clothes and contested for the title of honour: Rotterdam tit of the year!

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Parklaan. The area that has been a posh neighborhood since 1600 has a lot of former bankers and owners from shipping companies amongst it.

Friday, September 11, 2009

Schouwburgplein. That's right, it says Ramadan tent. Till September 13 at sun set, up to 500 moslims and non moslims can have a free meal here. There is going to be live music and to start up a dialogue, each day has a certain theme such as solidarity, good neighbors etc.

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Kralingse Bos. I saw these beautiful swans a couple of days ago but didn't dare go too close. Can you see that despite the great aftersummer, some leaves are turning brown already? Yuk.

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

Grrls and guys, meet Rob. Remember this post a little while ago? Rob, now living in Canada (BC)but being from Rotterdam originally did.
And this is the result. Don't you think it's cool? Not ONLY the tattoo but also how we connect to each other? Way to go Robert, Rotterdam is trots op je :)

The World Port Days were a big hit as ever. About 400,000 people in total during these last 3 days visited the port and enjoyed whatever activities (sub marines, tow boats, steam boats, a huge cruise boat, heli rescues, fireworks, you name it) they could see or visit.

Sunday, September 06, 2009

Plaszoom, Mill 'De Lelie'. Built in 1840 but still in use for grinding snuff and spices. Open every 2nd Saturday of the month.

Saturday, September 05, 2009

Jan Leentvaarlaan. These eyes stare at you in the waiting room of a cosmetic surgery clinic. I am thinking about doing an upper eyelift. I haven never been in a hospital or private clinic for any surgery, can't stand ER-like documentaries and in general, are fussy about my eyes.
So yes, I've got things to think about. Anyone who has been there, share a light please!

Far more important: the World Port Days are here this weekend. Go and enjoy whatever activities you can coz this year they also have English spoken tours

Tuna fish at Rosso's. Unfortunately looked better than it tasted. Bit under seasoned and too cold.

Thursday, September 03, 2009

Parklaan. This house, dating back till 1870 was built for Henri Jamin, the famous Rotterdam baker and founder of the Jamin stores.

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

Coolsingel, This bronze statue is called The Husband of the Doll and is made by Thom Puckey. What struck me though, was that a certain part of the body had apparently been rubbed often coz it was still bronze coloured.
Or is it just me, having a dirty mind?

Kruisplein. 1st of the month and todays theme is BIG. Now this Central Station of ours and the whole surrounding area to be honest has been a BIG mess the past, say 5 (that is FIVE) years. To add a little more weight to that statement I have tilt shifted the photo. Wanted to do that for a long time and I thought todays theme was asking for it.
